Empowering women in law and sport: featuring Sarah Rodrigues for International Women’s Day

At Parker Coles Curtis, we are privileged to work alongside exceptional women who lead, inspire, and shape the legal profession with dedication and passion. This International Women’s Day, we shine a spotlight on Senior Associate Sarah Rodrigues—a powerhouse in family law, a champion for women in sport, and a devoted mum.
A career defined by dedication and opportunity
Sarah’s legal career is a testament to seizing opportunities and making an impact. From the moment she stepped into the legal world at just 16 years old, she knew she had found her calling. After earning a Diploma in Legal Services and gaining early hands-on experience in family law, Sarah’s career trajectory was nothing short of remarkable. By 29, she had already reached a milestone that many aspire to—becoming a partner at a law firm. Her journey to Parker Coles Curtis has been one of tenacity, intelligence, and an unwavering commitment to her clients.
'I don’t set rigid goals,' Sarah says. 'I take opportunities as they come, and that has made my career journey all the more exciting and fulfilling.'
With a no-nonsense approach, Sarah has built a reputation for providing direct, empathetic, and solution-driven legal support to her clients. She understands the deeply personal nature of family law and uses her expertise to guide clients through challenging times with clarity and confidence.
A voice for women in sport
Beyond the courtroom, Sarah’s passion for sport—particularly rugby league—has led her to break barriers. She is a Co-Chair of the Canberra Region Rugby League (CRRL) Judiciary Panel and of the three Chairs, she is the only female. Sarah plays a pivotal role in maintaining integrity within the game, the sport and the community.
'I love being able to apply my legal knowledge with the sport that I’ve always enjoyed watching. But more than that, I love being part of the movement to get more women involved in sport—whether as players, officials, or leaders. You don’t necessarily have to be the female on the field, you can be the female off the field having an impact.'

A lifelong Canberra Raiders fan and NSW Blues supporter, Sarah’s enthusiasm for rugby league is undeniable. With her 1994 Raiders jersey signed by Mal Meninga hanging proudly at home, her passion for the game runs deep. However, she isn’t just a spectator—she is actively involved in shaping its future, advocating for fair play and encouraging female participation at all levels.
Leading the legal community
Sarah’s leadership extends beyond the courtroom and the sporting field. As the President of the Canberra Region Family Law Professionals Association, she is dedicated to fostering a strong, supportive legal community. Under her leadership, the association has planned an exciting agenda for 2025, ensuring that legal professionals have opportunities for growth, education, and connection within and outside the family law sector.
'I’ve achieved a lot in my career, but there is still so much more to do,” Sarah reflects. “The legal profession is constantly evolving, and I want to be part of that change—helping to create a better, more supportive environment for professionals and clients alike.'
Balancing career and motherhood
Amidst her professional achievements, Sarah’s most cherished role is being a mum. Juggling her legal career with raising a strong-willed toddler, she embraces the beautiful chaos of motherhood.
“More often than not, you’ll see me running out of the office with Bluey under one arm and my legal assistant reminding me not to forget the iPad,” she laughs.
As a working mother in a demanding profession, Sarah embodies resilience and balance. She is proof that women can thrive in both their careers and family lives, setting an incredible example for future generations.
Celebrating strength, growth, and opportunity
International Women’s Day is about celebrating the achievements of women like Sarah Rodrigues—women who lift others up, challenge the status quo, and inspire through action. Whether she’s advocating for her clients, championing women in sport, or leading the legal community, Sarah continues to pave the way for those who will follow in her footsteps.
At Parker Coles Curtis, we are proud to have Sarah as part of our team. Her story is a reminder that success isn’t about rigid goals—it’s about taking opportunities, making an impact, and embracing the journey.
